Stone
Sealing
Gold Coast

Professional-grade penetrating sealers that protect natural and engineered stone from staining — keeping surfaces easier to clean and maintain.

The Basics

Why Seal
Natural Stone?

Natural stone is porous — sealing is what stands between an everyday spill and a permanent stain.

Natural stone is a porous material. Without sealing, liquids, oils, food and cleaning products can penetrate the surface and cause permanent staining. Stone sealing applies a protective barrier within the stone’s pore structure to significantly reduce the absorption of staining agents, making the surface easier to clean and maintain.

The Stone Specialist applies professional-grade penetrating stone sealers to natural and engineered stone surfaces across the Gold Coast, Brisbane and Northern NSW. We use premium impregnating sealers formulated for specific stone types and applications.

Types of Stone
Sealers We Use

We only use penetrating, impregnating sealers — never topical coatings that sit on the surface and can peel, yellow or trap moisture.

Penetrating impregnating sealers

Penetrate below the surface and bond within the pore structure. They don't change the stone's appearance and allow vapour transmission — the sealer we apply in most cases.

Colour-enhancing sealers

A penetrating sealer that deepens the stone's colour while providing the same protection. Popular on granite, slate and dark-toned natural stone.

Water-based sealers

Low-odour, water-based formulations suitable for interior use in occupied residential properties.

How It Works

Our Stone
Sealing Process

A methodical process ensures even coverage, the correct product for your stone, and lasting protection.

01

Surface preparation

The stone is thoroughly cleaned and dried before sealing. Any existing sealer residue or surface contaminants are removed.

02

Sealer selection

We select the appropriate sealer formulation for the stone type, porosity level and end use — kitchen, bathroom, outdoor or commercial.

03

Application

The sealer is applied evenly across the surface, allowed to penetrate for the specified dwell time, and excess sealer is removed before it dries.

04

Cure time

The sealed surface requires a cure period before full exposure to water and cleaning. We provide specific instructions for your stone type and environment.

Questions

Frequently Asked
Questions

This depends on the stone type, porosity, location and use. As a general guide, kitchen benchtops and bathroom stone surfaces should be resealed every one to three years. Floor tiles in high-traffic areas may require resealing more frequently. We assess your specific stone and advise on an appropriate sealing schedule.
No sealer provides permanent protection against all staining. A high-quality penetrating sealer significantly reduces the absorption of most staining agents and gives you time to wipe up spills before they are absorbed. Certain highly pigmented liquids and strong acids can still cause staining or etching even on sealed stone if left in contact for extended periods.
Penetrating impregnating sealers do not change the appearance of the stone — the surface will look the same after sealing as before. Colour-enhancing sealers deepen the colour and bring out the natural tones of the stone, which some clients prefer for dark-coloured stone surfaces.
Consumer-grade sealers are available, but professional-grade sealers provide significantly better protection and longevity. Incorrect application can result in sealer residue, uneven coverage or reduced effectiveness. We recommend professional sealing, particularly after a polishing or restoration treatment.

I would highly recommend Nathan from The Stone Specialist. He put me at ease with what the process was to repair the small hole and chip in our stone benchtop. He stated that once the repair was done you wouldn’t be able to see where the chip and hole was. True to his words, you can’t see the repairs. Very happy with the outcome. Thanks Nathan

We have used Nathan from The Stone Specialist for a variety of jobs over the last couple of months, ranging from repairing chips in a bathroom vanity and damage to a kitchen benchtop, through to a major restoration project in our substantial outdoor entertaining area and around our pool, which is finished with travertine tiles. Many of the tiles had cracked and required replacement, while others had stains and deep scratches. Nathan's workmanship was exceptional, and the finished result exceeded our expectations. The restoration has brought the area back to life and looks fantastic. Nathan is professional, reliable, and takes great pride in his work. He was always punctual, communicated exceptionally well throughout every project, and kept us informed at every stage. I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Nathan, The Stone Specialist, for jobs of any size, from small repairs to large-scale restoration work.
