Marble
Restoration
Gold Coast

Professional diamond restoration that removes etching, scratches and dullness from marble floors, benchtops and features — restoring natural depth and lustre without replacement.

The Material

Why Marble Needs
Specialist Care

Marble is soft and acid-sensitive — which is exactly why diamond restoration, not replacement, brings it back to life.

Marble is a metamorphic limestone that is highly sensitive to acid — including common household cleaners, citrus juices and vinegar. Acid contact causes a chemical reaction that dissolves the surface of the stone, leaving dull, rough patches known as etching. Marble is also relatively soft compared to granite and can be scratched by everyday wear.

The Stone Specialist specialises in marble restoration and polishing on the Gold Coast. We use professional diamond polishing systems specifically suited to marble to remove etching, scratches and general surface wear, restoring the natural depth, clarity and lustre of marble without the need for replacement.

Common Damage

What We Fix

Marble shows damage that harder stone shrugs off. These are the issues we correct most often.

Acid etching

Dull, rough patches caused by contact with acidic substances. Etching is the most common form of marble damage.

Scratches & surface marks

Light to moderate scratches from everyday use, dragged objects or abrasive cleaning products.

Dull, worn finishes

Marble that has lost its reflective polish through age and foot traffic.

Water marks & mineral deposits

Hard water staining and mineral build-up on marble surfaces.

Chips & cracks

Localised damage to marble benchtops, floors and other surfaces, repaired and refinished in place.

How It Works

Our Marble
Restoration Process

Every marble job follows a controlled sequence to remove damage and rebuild the finish without harming the stone.

01

Condition assessment

We inspect the marble surface, identify the type and extent of damage and confirm the target finish — gloss, semi-gloss or honed.

02

Chip & crack repair

Where chips, cracks or lippage are present, they are repaired with colour-matched fillers and levelled before polishing begins.

03

Diamond grinding & honing

For heavily etched or scratched surfaces, we use diamond abrasive pads to remove the damaged layer and return the surface to a consistent, flat plane.

04

Diamond polishing

Progressive fine-grit polishing pads restore the natural lustre of the marble to the specified finish level.

05

Protective sealing

After polishing, a penetrating stone sealer is applied to protect the restored surface and extend the life of the finish.

Questions

Frequently Asked
Questions

Yes. Acid etching on marble can be repaired using diamond polishing. The process removes the damaged surface layer and restores the natural finish of the stone. The extent of polishing required depends on the depth and area of the etching.
Light to moderate scratches in marble can be removed by diamond polishing. Deep scratches may require a coarser starting grit before progressing through the polishing sequence. During our inspection, we assess the depth of scratches and advise on the process and expected result.
The most effective steps are: use a penetrating marble sealer (we apply this after polishing), wipe up acidic spills immediately, use only pH-neutral stone cleaners, and avoid placing acidic foods or drinks directly on marble surfaces. We provide detailed aftercare advice after each job.
Yes. Kitchen marble benchtop polishing and restoration is one of our most common services. Marble kitchens are particularly prone to etching from lemon juice, vinegar, wine and cleaning products. We restore etched marble benchtops to a high-gloss or honed finish and seal them to reduce future vulnerability.
Yes. We specialise in marble restoration for luxury residential properties, high-end apartments and architecturally significant homes. Our technicians treat high-value interiors with appropriate care and attention to detail.

I would highly recommend Nathan from The Stone Specialist. He put me at ease with what the process was to repair the small hole and chip in our stone benchtop. He stated that once the repair was done you wouldn’t be able to see where the chip and hole was. True to his words, you can’t see the repairs. Very happy with the outcome. Thanks Nathan

We have used Nathan from The Stone Specialist for a variety of jobs over the last couple of months, ranging from repairing chips in a bathroom vanity and damage to a kitchen benchtop, through to a major restoration project in our substantial outdoor entertaining area and around our pool, which is finished with travertine tiles. Many of the tiles had cracked and required replacement, while others had stains and deep scratches. Nathan's workmanship was exceptional, and the finished result exceeded our expectations. The restoration has brought the area back to life and looks fantastic. Nathan is professional, reliable, and takes great pride in his work. He was always punctual, communicated exceptionally well throughout every project, and kept us informed at every stage. I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Nathan, The Stone Specialist, for jobs of any size, from small repairs to large-scale restoration work.
